THE Kuala Lumpur mayor will meet PPR Sri Aman residents tomorrow over the longstanding problems affecting their homes, a City Hall (DBKL) officer said today.

Hazirah Ghazali, special officer to Mahadi Che Ngah, confirmed the meeting after residents of the low-cost flats in Jinjang Utara staged a protest at the City Hall office tower today.

“The mayor has agreed to meet representatives of PPR Sri Aman tomorrow at 8.30am in his office.

“The representatives can express their issues to the mayor when they meet,” Hazirah told The Malaysian Insight

Earlier today, some 50 residents of the four-block PPR Sri Aman flats gathered in Jalan Raja Laut to protest City Hall’s failure to look into water leakages in their homes.

They shouted “We want better homes”, while holding banners and placards with photos of the units.

Their representative, Batu MP P. Prabakaran, who had brought up the residents’ plight in parliament last year, was also present.

The residents want the mayor and the Federal Territories minister to visit the flats and see for themselves the condition of the buildings.

PPR Sri Aman Residents Association chairman Mohamed Nawaz Koya said the residents were frustrated at the the persistent problems.

He said DBKL had failed to provide remedial action even though the residents had made several complaints on the official channels.

“We have been experiencing water leakages for years,” said Nawaz.

“The number of complaints keeps growing every year. I think now we have more than 400 units that are affected. This can get worse if the problem is not addressed,” Nawaz said.

Nawaz said DBKL had sent contractors for to make repairs but the problem was not fixed.

“DBKL has sent some contractors earlier to look at some of the units but they couldn’t repair the problem.

“Also, since the contractors only tried to fix some of the units, this created further issues for residents, who thought we were being biased.

“We want a permanent solution to this. We want all of our units to be repaired by competent contractors.”
