THE Higher Education Ministry wants at least 55% of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia holders to further their studies in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) fields by 2025.
Minister Noraini Ahmad said this in line with 12th Malaysia Plan initiatives, namely for university graduates to obtain the Malaysian Skills Certificate.
Various parties, including industry players, must cooperate to empower TVET, she added.
“The ministry welcomes new ideas and industry views on how to enhance the higher education sector in the country,” she said at an event at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in Batu Pahat, Johor, today.
“Close cooperation between universities and industries is important to produce quality graduates who are able to meet industry demands.”
UTHM vice-chancellor Prof Ruzairi Abdul Rahim said the university aims to expand its TVET-based courses in the next three years. – Bernama, June 19, 2022.
