Malaysia reports one virus death, 2,127 new infections

THE country logged 2,127 fresh Covid-19 cases yesterday, the Health Ministry reported.

The CovidNow website showed there has been 4,538,922 cases of infection in Malaysia since March 2020, when the pandemic struck. 

The ministry reported one death yesterday, taking the domestic virus death toll to 35,732. 

Selangor posted the highest number of cases yesterday at 897, followed by Kuala Lumpur (482) and Penang (153). 

Perak reported 137 cases, Sabah (127), Malacca (79), Negri Sembilan (72), Johor (40), Kedah (36), Sarawak (31), Putrajaya (26), Pahang (19), Terengganu (16), Kelantan (11) and Perlis (1). 

Active cases rose to 26,362 as 1,390 people recovered from the disease. 

Among the active cases, 25,350, or 96.2%, were in home quarantine, eight (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine centres, and 981 (3.7%) in hospitals.

Twenty-three patients were in intensive care, 16 of whom required respiratory assistance. – June 19, 2022.
