FORMER prime minister Najib Razak has poured doubt on Muhyiddin Yassin’s denial of receiving bribes from a company because he was overseas for cancer treatment.

Najib on Facebook posted links to news reports of Muhyiddin’s activities on the dates he was said to have received bribes from Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd, as testified by a witness during the corruption trial of Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday.

“He (Muhyiddin) says that between June and August 2018, he was undergoing surgery for cancer and then took several months’ medical leave for further treatment.

“Really?” Najib said.

A witness in Zahid’s trial for receiving kickbacks over a foreign visa system while he was deputy prime minister and home minister, testified that Muhyiddin had received RM1.3 million over three transactions on June 4, July 4 and August 23, 2018.

Muhyiddin was home minister at the time, under Pakatan Harapan rule.

Muhyiddin yesterday evening denied the witness’s testimony, citing his cancer treatment when the alleged payments took place.

However, Najib in his Facebook post listed news articles on the dates given in the witness’s testimony, which showed he had been well enough to make official visits or that he had yet to undergo surgery at those times.

In news reports, the date of Muhyiddin’s surgery for pancreatic cancer was reported as July 12, 2018 and was conducted at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

In his denial, Muhyiddin said he had never received any money, whether directly or indirectly from the witness, UKSB’s former administrative manager David Tan, or the company’s directors or shareholders.

The Bersatu president and former prime minister also said he had never been questioned by the authorities over the matter and was ready to be investigated. – June 18, 2022.
