FORMER prime minister Najib Razak is being slammed by social media users who are questioning why the convicted politician was being given a preview of the first phase of the Putrajaya MRT line today.

MRT Corp was also chided for inviting the Pekan MP to preview the new line.

However, on Najib’s Facebook, he was praised for his role in developing the public transport system which will benefit thousands of Malaysians.

But on Twitter, users slammed MRT Corp for the treatment given to Najib who has been convicted of graft and is appealing.

HeadsUp (@HeadsUp93) asked why someone who embarrassed the nation was being invited to the preview.

@MRTMalaysia invited plundering idiot/national embarrassment/najis nasional to officiate the MRT line Putrajaya? Shame on you lah, corporate company but no brains,” he wrote.

Another Twitter user said Najib was being treated like a VIP despite his conviction.

“Malaysia is crazy. Treating a convicted criminal to a VIP treatment,” @arfdptr wrote.

Another user observed that Najib was going about as if he had not been convicted for any wrongdoing.

“Imagine a convicted crook going around publicly like it’s nothing,” @amoeba_kecil wrote on Twitter.

Najib posted on his Facebook page earlier today that he was given a preview of the MRT Putrajaya line.

He was joined by his daughter Nooyana Najib and his grandson Adam.

An entourage of MRT Corp personnel could also be seen in the video.

Reactions to his video were however drastically different to that on Twitter, with most people crediting Najib for the success of the MRT project.

Gempak Crew wrote: “Without BN and Najib, we would not have this facility. If we rely on Pakatan Harapan, all they do is slash projects.”

Another user wrote that most people still support Najib.

“Majority of the people support Najib. Hopefully he is blessed and protected by God,” Amir Hassan wrote.

Another said thanks to Najib, the people will be able to enjoy the public transport system.

“The people have to think about the future of their grandchildren. Bossku is the best in looking after the welfare of the people,” Umyh Umyl wrote.

Najib was convicted for corruption in the SRC International case. He was sentenced to 12 years in jail and RM120,000 fine.

The case is currently on appeal at the Federal Court.

Najib is also facing corruption and abuse of power charges in relation to sovereign wealth fund 1Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

Phase 1 of the MRT Putrajaya line will begin operating at 3pm tomorrow.

The 12 stations which will be open are Kwasa Damansara, Kampung Selamat, Sungai Buloh, Damansara Damai, Sri Damansara Barat, Sri Damansara Sentral, Sri Damansara Timur, Metro Prima, Kepong Baru, Jinjang, Sri Delima and Kampung Batu.

Phase 2, from Kampung Batu to Putrajaya, will begin operations next January. – June 15, 2022.
