THE Johor Occupational Safety and Health Department has commenced an investigation into a fatal incident that killed two maintenance workers at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, yesterday.

Director Husdin Che Amat said the team found that the victims were conducting cleaning works before falling from the canvas roof and landing on the fence.

The incident occurred at about 12.30pm.

The local technicians, aged 34 and 35, were assigned to clean the roof using a rope access technique near Gate A in front of the Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club headquarters.

“They fell from a height of 27m and died at the scene,” said Husdin in a statement today, adding that the department takes seriously all incidents involving occupational safety and health.

He said legal action can be taken against those responsible under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.

“Those working at high altitudes are exposed to danger, which can be reduced if employers use… three main processes – hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control.” – Bernama, June 14, 2022.
