DENGUE cases have increased by 143.8% in Kedah as of June 11, with 490 cases compared with the 201 cases in the same period last year, said state Health director Dr Othman Warijo.

He said one death due to the viral infection has been recorded, and the number of outbreaks increased to 55 as of June 11 from only eight in the same period last year.

“Of the total number of outbreaks, three are under control, eight are still active, while the remainder have ended.”

He said 157,399 premises were inspected and 2,887 compounds handed out to owners of premises for “breeding” Aedes mosquitoes under the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975.

The compounds totalled more than RM1.3 million.

Dr Othman said control and prevention activities were carried out for all dengue cases and outbreaks reported to break the chain of the infection. – Bernama, June 14, 2022.
