Educationist Arshad Ayub dead at 93

RENOWNED educationist Arshad Ayub died today at 2.06am.

He was 93.

His death was confirmed this morning in a press statement from his family.

Arshad was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) last Tuesday, they said.

He was the first director of the Mara Institute of Technology, now known as Universiti Teknologi Mara. He served on the board from 1967 to 1975. 

He is remembered for his call in 2015, when he was the UiTM pro-chancellor, for non-Bumiputera to be allowed to take the postgraduate courses of the university.

Arshad repeated the call in 2019, after he had left UiTM, but the idea was dismissed.

The Johor native was also a secretary-general at the Education Ministry. – June 14, 2022.
