THE complete reports on the investigation and study of Batu Puteh, the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, and the allegations in the book My Story: Justice in the Wilderness by former attorney-general Tommy Thomas are expected to be ready in August.

Law Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the teams involved have requested for an extension to peruse each report.

An extension is also required to translate the reports, especially legal terms, as they were written in English, he added.

“Certain reports need more time as the investigation committees are facing problems on the acquisition of statements and witnesses.”

Wan Junaidi said the final reports on the death of Adib and allegations in the memoir will be presented to the cabinet this month.

Adib suffered serious injuries in the riots at Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, on November 27, 2018. He died from his injuries while being treated at the National Heart Institute on December 17 the same year.

A task force, led by Sarawak legal adviser and former AG Fong Joo Chung, was established to focus on fact-finding following allegations in the book written by Thomas.

The cabinet agreed to set up a task force to review the actions and legal woes concerning Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks and South Ledge on October 29. The task force is chaired by former AG Mohamed Apandi Ali.

The team submitted and tabled an interim report at the end of April. – Bernama, June 13, 2022.
