KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) must explain why it is paying RM30.75 million to replace 200 units of smart lampposts in the Klang Valley, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said today.

The sum translated to RM153,750 for one lamppost, he said.

The contract is for engineering, procurement, construction and operation work for 200 units of lampposts.

“People are wondering if the contract worth RM30.75 million is just to build 200 lampposts? Does this mean that the construction of a lamppost will have to cost RM153,750?” he said in a statement today.

“I will also carry out my duties as an elected representative by obtaining an explanation from DBKL whether the contract was awarded through an open tender or not.

“Why should the contract be awarded through Ennova Sdn Bhd and not directly from DBKL or the government?”

He added the government must not ignore transparency and good governance in the management of high-value contracts.

Recently SCIB Properties Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd, revealed it has bagged the RM30-million contract from Ennova Sdn Bhd.

The spokesman said SCIB Properties will provide the engineering services for the replacement of the 200 integrated smart lampposts.

The company will replace 200 smart lampposts the Klang Valley. The project will commence in June and complete in 2023. – June 11, 2022.
