22-year-old man jailed for kicking, threatening mum

A 22-YEAR-OLD man has been sentenced to five months in jail for kicking his mother and threatening his mother and sister with a pair of scissors.

Magistrate S. Mageswary handed down the sentence to Alif Najmi Abdul Halim after he pleaded guilty to both charges.

Alif Najmi received three months’ jail for kicking and injuring his mother, Suhaila Mohd Jidin, 47, at 8.30am at a house in Bandar Baru Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

He was charged under section 323 of the penal code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of one year or a fine of RM2,000, or both, upon conviction, read together with section 326A of the code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of twice the maximum term or a fine or whipping upon conviction.

He received five months’ jail for threatening Suhaila and his sister, Nur Alia Wardina, 21, with a pair of scissors at the same time, place and date.

The second offence is framed under section 506 of the penal code.

The court ordered the accused to serve both sentences concurrently from the date of his arrest.

National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Edwin Tomas, representing the accused, appealed for a lenient sentence as his client has mental health issues and has repented of his actions. – Bernama, June 9, 2022.
