LEADERS from Sabah DAP and Parti Warisan Sabah have set aside their political differences to come together for some Chinese New Year merry-making today.
Warisan leader Shafie Apdal has made it clear that Warisan would support Pakatan Harapan in its bid to form the federal government, while Sabah DAP chairman Stephen Wong described him as the “incoming chief minister”.
“This will be a good year for us. This 2018, we will realise unity of various races, we will respect and listen to ways we can share the country. The country does not belong only to the Malays but also to the Chinese, Indian, Dusun, Iban and Kadazans.
“But more importantly, both of us (DAP and Warisan) will work together. So that is why we have put aside our political differences for the greater good.
“This is also an indication to Umno and Barisan Nasional that their end as the ruling government is nigh,” Shafie said at the gathering in Sandakan today.
The Chinese New Year open house was hosted by Wong, who is also Sandakan MP.
DAP and Warisan leaders had crossed swords in the past, with DAP calling Warisan arrogant for refusing to cooperate with PH, while Warisan had accused DAP leaders as those who only wanted to acquire high-level offices with no intention of forming the government.
Recently, the two parties swapped abuse over seat distribution for the next general election, forcing Sabah PH chairman Christina Liew to keep the peace.

Today, however, Wong hailed Shafie as the “incoming chief minister” and praised special guests who were willing to visit his “small” house.
“I hope we will work out a certain solution. This has been what Sabah DAP has been hoping for,” he said.
With them were Warisan vice-president Jaujan Sambokong and Sabah DAP secretary Chan Foong Hin. – February 18, 2018.
