THERE will be no special Parliament sitting to table the anti-party hopping bill and amendments to the Federal Constitution, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said.

In a statement today, the minister said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had rejected the proposal.

“The prime minister has decided that there is no need to have a special sitting, because it will incur additional costs to have MPs attend the sitting, which are estimated to be more than RM1 million,” he said.

The statement comes after Wan Junaidi said yesterday that a proposal for an additional sitting had been received.

He said Ismail’s decision took into account the number of MPs who are travelling abroad on parliamentary assignments. 

Wan Junaidi said that bill and amendments will be debated on July 18 instead, while the parliamentary select committee will meet soon to finalise its report, recommending what will be tabled in Parliament. – June 9, 2022.
