SINGAPORE’S Health Ministry said the New South Wales Health Ministry informed it on June 4 of a man diagnosed with monkeypox who transited via Singapore en route to Australia on June 2.
The ministry in a statement said the traveller arrived in Sydney on June 3, and tested positive for monkeypox there.
“He departed from Barcelona on June 1 and arrived at Changi Airport on June 2.
“He remained in the transit holding area at the airport until his departure flight to Sydney the same day and did not visit any other area in the airport.”
As the man did not enter Singapore or interact with any person in the community, “there is currently no significant risk of community transmission”, it added.
However, as a precautionary measure, the ministry has conducted contact tracing on the two affected flights and those who may have come into contact with the traveller at the transit holding area.
There are no assessed close contact, hence no requirement for quarantine, it added.
“However, we have placed 13 people who may have casual contact with the traveller on phone surveillance for 21 days.
“Should they report symptoms that are suggestive of monkeypox infection, they will be medically assessed and may be conveyed for further evaluation to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.” – Bernama, June 6, 2022.
