PAS today accused splinter party Amanah of seeking to divide Muslims and act as spoiler in elections.

The Islamist party’s president Abdul Hadi Awang told Mingguan Malaysia that if Amanah is sincere about defeating Umno, the Pakatan Harapan component party would not contest in traditional PAS seats.

“Amanah exists to divide Muslims, the Malay votes and gives a lifeline to Umno.

“If Amanah really wants to defeat Umno, why contest in PAS seats which have been an Umno-PAS fight for decades?

“Amanah is a wrong ijtihad (effort) that is formed from the intervention of foreign parties into Malaysian politics and with DAP’s support to replace PAS,” Hadi said in an exclusive interview with the Umno-owned newspaper.

He also said as proven in the past, all PAS splinter parties would eventually fail and their leaders would return to the party.

“PAS has dealt with splinter parties since 1960s – Parti Imam, Parti Islah, Parti Berjasa and in the 1980s – Parti Hamim, which all have faded out.

“A large portion of them return to PAS. They should take note of this history. Maybe they are new, they do not know this history.”

Amanah is a PAS splinter party set up by progressive leaders after the Islamist party severed ties with DAP, ending the former opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat.

The PH component party was formed in 2015 with Mohamed Sabu as president.

PAS also severed ties with PH parties – PKR and DAP – in 2015 over the lack of support from the Chinese-based DAP for its campaign to implement hudud in Kelantan.

DAP, PKR, Bersatu and Amanah then formed PH, which applied to the Registrar of Societies become a formal coalition.

The Islamist party had always stressed that it is leading an independent opposition coalition, called Gagasan Sejahtera Rakyat, in the next elections to fight both BN and PH. – February 18, 2018.

  • Hadi is fretting. The experience of the past is valuable not so much for its similarity to the present as for its differences.
what is certain, PAS was in a coalition with DAP and PKR. with the demise of TOK GURU
    we have Gagasan Sejahtera Rakyat
Now what has changed is HADIS obsession of the supremacy of certain laws and institutions
    over the constitution.
PAS and UMNO will be decimated in GE 14.
    the kingmakers will be sarawakians

  • "intervention of foreign powers" !!!!!! OMG Hadi , you make me laugh . You are supporting the guy who supposedly took how many billion from a foreign source to win the last election ? Tok Guru is rolling in his grave . Or perhaps it wasn't a donation , perhaps it was actually stolen money but that means you were getting the support of thieves to pass your Hudud legislation , hypocrisy of the highest order .
