THE Umno president’s daughter has undermined women and their role at a time the nation should be looking at having its first woman prime minister, Lim Kit Siang said today.

“Nurulhidayah has done a great disservice to women empowerment when she said that women are not born to be leaders,” the Iskandar Puteri MP said in statement.

“Malaysians should be looking (to break the) next glass ceiling by having a woman prime minister. We have already had a woman deputy prime minister and it should not be too tall an order to have a woman prime minister in Malaysia,” he added.

He reminded Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid that Malaysia was in a new era of women empowerment.

He noted that Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Court of Appeal president Rohana Yusuf were both women, and that seven among the 12 judges in the Federal Court were women.

Nurulhidayah, daughter of Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has come under fire after a video of her went viral, in which she had said that men should lead as women were not born to do so. – June 4, 2022.
