POLICE smashed a drug smuggling and trafficking syndicate with the seizure of drugs weighing 696kg and worth RM25.35 million in raids in Kedah and Selangor yesterday and early this morning.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said in the first raid at 2.30am in Selangor yesterday, police confiscated 404.3kg of syabu, 35.3kg of ecstasy pills and 7.7kg of heroin, all worth an estimated RM16.4 million.

“We arrested a 40-year-old man believed to be involved in drug smuggling and trafficking activities for international and local markets.”

In raids in Kedah and Selangor this morning, Ayob Khan said police arrested three men and a woman, aged between 25 and 39, believed to be involved in drug smuggling and trafficking activities for the local market.

Police seized 248.7kg of syabu, worth an estimated RM8.95 million, during the raids.

Ayob Khan said the syndicate has been active since the end of last year, and is believed to have obtained its drug supply from Golden Triangle countries (Laos, Myanmar and Thailand) before selling the drugs in Indonesia.

“Its modus operandi is to use residential premises as a place to store drugs, which are then smuggled into neighbouring countries.”

The case is being investigated under section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – Bernama, June 3, 2022.
