PUTRAJAYA should study all aspects before bringing back the Goods and Services Tax (GST), said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
He said the decision should take into consideration the welfare of the people, especially the low-income group.
“Do not impose tax on basic goods (as) people are already burdened by the rising cost of living.
“Consider it fairly… its effects on the people and the responsibility (to be fulfilled) by the government,” he told reporters in Marang, Terengganu, today.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a special interview with Nikkei Asia in Tokyo on May 31, said the government is not ruling out the possibility of reintroducing GST.
GST, seen by some as an effective way to increase national revenue, was implemented by the Barisan Nasional government in April 2015 but scrapped by the Pakatan Harapan government in 2018. – Bernama, June 3, 2022.
