THE Form Three assessment examination (PT3) is abolished from this year, Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said.

He said the ministry has decided to do away with the PT3 after two years of not having the examination due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

He announced the decision at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

This follows the abolition of the Primary School Achievement Test or Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah last year.

“Prior to the epidemic, PT3 was used in schools, where the teachers would set the questions for their students and the examinations were held under the jurisdiction of the school,” Radzi said.

“However, the minister has decided that PT3 will be phased out beginning this year.”

He said the ministry will replace these examinations with summative assessment to strengthen the education system.

“To improve the summative assessment, we will strengthen the final-year assessment of academic sessions in elementary schools for five subjects (standard 4-6) while it will encompass all subjects in secondary schools,” he said.

Radzi said the ministry will only set questions for five subjects for primary schools – Bahasa Malaysia, English, mathematics, science and history – while the teachers will do so for the other subjects.

“As we can see, these five subjects will assist teachers in ensuring that their students master them at the end of the learning session,” he said.

“This will enable the ministry to monitor the students’ achievement in the said disciplines.”

He said the summative assessment technique is more interventionist and can help students better in pursuing excellence.

“This allows us to focus on literacy issues to make interventions at the state, district and school levels,” he said.

Radzi said schools can set the dates for the exams and they do not have to be held at the same time across the country. – June 2, 2022.
