MOH reports 1,420 dengue cases, highest weekly figure since 2021

SOME 1,420 dengue cases were reported between May 15 and 21, the highest figure since 2021, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

According to Noor Hisham, this is a 32.2% increase week-on-week, when 1,072 cases were reported.

“This is the highest number of dengue cases that has been reported since 2021,” Noor Hisham said in a statement.

“However, there were no deaths tied to dengue in that week.”

Cumulatively, Noor Hisham said 16,145 dengue cases have been reported to date, up from 10,597 for the same period last year, a 50.2% increase.

“There have been nine deaths linked to complications from dengue, compared to five deaths for the same period last year.”

He said there were 41 hotspots, with 36 in Selangor, three in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, and one each in Malacca and Sabah.

Noor Hisham also urged the public to ensure that their surroundings are not Aedes breeding grounds. – May 31, 2022.
