THE Education Ministry (MOE) should hold a dialogue session with contract teacher candidates for 2021 to clarify their decision not to recruit more than 90% of them, Teo Nie Ching said.

The former deputy education minister said the candidates for the contract of service (COS) 2021 were being treated unfairly given that they waited six months to find out the result of their interview.

“Is it true that more than 90% of the COS candidates were not recruited in this round?

“Is it also true that the quota was reduced from 5,000 to 2,400? If so, why?,” Teo asked.

The Kulai MP also questioned whether it was true that for subjects such as Bahasa Melayu, no one passed the interview.

“I urge the MOE and the Education Service Commission, to have a dialogue session with the COS 2021 candidates soon to answer the questions above professionally and truthfully.

“Don’t rob them of their hope of pursuing their ambition to teach,” she said.

The COS 2021 interview for one-off recruitment of Grade DG41 teachers was conducted from November 1 to 14.

The results of the interview were supposed to be announced on November 27 but were delayed until last Saturday.

Education Minister Mohd Radzi Jidin announced on the same day the COS results were out that the commission had agreed to extend the contract of 2,600 teachers appointed in the June 2020 intake. – May 31, 2022.
