FORMER Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamad Khir Toyo said it is up to the Umno leadership on whether to choose him as a candidate in the 15th general election (GE15).

However, he added, he will still help Barisan Nasional (BN) win back the Sungai Besar parliamentary constituency, regardless of whether he is chosen as a candidate or not.

“Let the top leadership decide on the candidates. It is up to the president (Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi).

“If he thinks I can win, I will accept. Why would I choose to contest only to lose?”

Khir said he does not rule out the possibility of him being fielded as a candidate in a state seat in Selangor.

The Sungai Besar seat is currently held by Bersatu’s Muslimin Yahaya, who defeated BN candidate Budiman Mohd Zohdi and PAS candidate Mohamed Salleh M Husin in GE14. – Bernama, May 30, 2022.
