NAJIB Razak’s 1MDB audit report trial has been postponed after lead counsel Shafee Abdullah called in sick.
Najib’s lawyer Rahmat Hazlan told the High Court this morning that the prominent lawyer sounded like “Sean Connery” when the latter contacted Rahmat.
“Shafee has a high fever and sore throat. When he (Shafee) called (me earlier this morning to inform me about this), he sounded like Sean Connery,” Rahmat informed the court.
Trial judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan obliged but told Rahmat his remarked was uncalled for as Connery is no longer around.
“That is not a good example,” said Zaini before allowing the bid to vacate today’s trial.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib said the prosecution had no objection to the application to postpone today’s trial.
British actor Sean Connery, who shot to fame playing British spy James Bond, passed away at the age of 90 on October 31, 2020.
Zaini then set Friday to hear the prosecution’s application to call other accused and former 1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy to testify against Najib.
The main trial has also been fixed to resume on October 21, 25 and 28.
Najib is charged with using his position to order amendments to 1MDB’s final audit report before it was presented to the Public Accounts Committee to prevent any action against him.
Arul Kanda was charged with abetting Najib in making the amendments. – May 30, 2022.
