IT is a matter of public interest that Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki must reveal the identities of individuals and agencies involved in the medical equipment procurement scandal, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said today.

“Azam needs to be more transparent in this case and inform the public which ministries and government departments are involved, and whether the case involves any minister or deputy minister, as well as the sum involved,” Loke said in a statement.

“The public has the right to know more about these corruption cases, without affecting the MACC’s investigation process.”

Yesterday, Azam said the MACC had begun investigating a case involving bribery over the procurement of medical services; abuse of power in diverting relief aid and stimulus packages; fraud related to medical protective equipment in terms of its quantity and quality; and bribery of enforcement officers during the previous movement control orders during Covid-19.

Loke also urged the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to call on Azam to provide more details to Parliament.

“I urge the PAC to call the Azam to come forward to provide evidence and information to the PAC, which is responsible for ensuring that all government expenditure is managed properly,” he said.

The Seremban MP also called on the public to demand that action be taken against those who are responsible.

“Malaysians must not take the problem of corruption lightly and must demand that stern action be taken against these inhumane bribers.” – May 25, 2022.
