EX-BALIK Pulau MP Mohd Yusmadi Mohd Yusoff is ready to make a comeback to politics in the 15th general election (GE15), which is expected to be held this year.

The PKR man said feedback from his peers and the public has been positive, adding that he is not bothered about where the party will place him.

“I do not have a favourite seat… but I hope I get to contest in a seat where I am most needed as a lawmaker based on my skills,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

As a lawyer, he added, he is able to offer legal assistance to voters.

His main purpose is to help PKR president Anwar Ibrahim. He also wants to unite party members, irrespective of age, behind the leadership.

Yusmadi said Anwar deserves a shot at being prime minister.

“I feel that he still deserves to be given the chance to make Malaysia better.”

Yusmadi first contested the Balik Pulau parliamentary seat in 2008.

He defeated Umno Supreme Council member Norraesah Mohamad with a 708-vote majority.

Yusmadi bagged 15,749 votes compared with Norraesah’s 15,041.

However, PKR did not nominate him to defend the seat in GE13.

Yusmadi said he had been invited to contest in seats where the incumbents left PKR for Bersatu.

Pakatan Harapan fell from federal power in February 2020 and was replaced by Perikatan Nasional, led by Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin resigned after losing support in August, and Anwar claimed a majority to form government – only to lose out to Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who became the ninth prime minister of Malaysia. – May 24, 2022.
