2,124 new Covid-19 cases, 5 deaths

The Ministry of Health reports that daily Covid-19 cases remain slightly above 2,000, with five people succumbing to the virus in the past 24 hours. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, May 20, 2022.

MALAYSIA recorded 2,124 new Covid-19 infections yesterday, compared to 2,017 cases the previous day.

Data on the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website showed that with the fresh infections 4.49 million people had contracted Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

Selangor posted 892 cases yesterday, the highest number by state or territory, followed by Kuala Lumpur (411), Perak (125), Penang (114), Malacca (111), Negri Sembilan (98), Kedah (70), Johor (62), Sarawak (58), Sabah (56), Putrajaya (46), Pahang (40), Kelantan (17), Terengganu (11), Labuan (7), and Perlis (6).

A total of five deaths were recorded yesterday, two of which were declared dead on arrival, bringing the total number of Covid-19 deaths to 35,630.

The fatality rate stood at 0.1% and the cumulative fatality rate was 0.8%. – May 20, 2022.
