BUKIT Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran wants to help people learn how to sell their food through food delivery applications, as part of his programme to help micro businesses.

He will hold a workshop on May 21, aimed at aiding people to sell food from their homes or stalls and reach a wider consumer base.

Participants will be taught how to conduct businesses on apps such as GrabFood, Foodpanda and ShopeeFood.

“It is basically how to go about putting your food business online. We hope by doing so, they can attract more consumers,” Rajiv told The Malaysian Insight.

He said the programme will also help those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Many people have been hit hard by the pandemic and decided to do part-time baking, cooking and other businesses from their homes.

“So far, they have been relying on WhatsApp groups or word of mouth to promote their food. So, we are looking to help them expand their businesses online.”

The workshop will be held from 3pm to 5pm at Lara’s Spice Kitchen in Petaling Jaya on May 21.

Rajiv said the premises can cater up to 50 people, and registration is based on walk-ins and open to anyone.

“We have provided a venue and trainer to conduct the session. We are looking to accommodate about 50 people.

“We have been doing a number of workshops to help small businesses, but this is the first session on how to sell food online.”

The DAP man said the decision to hold this workshop follows feedback from participants in previous workshops.

People believe they need an outlet or physical store even if they sell food online, he added.

“But they can do so from their homes or stalls and leverage food delivery apps, as WhatsApp has limited reach.

“Many people are already using such apps, and these are ready buyers.” – May 15, 2022.
