PAKISTAN’S former prime minister Imran Khan last night alleged an assassination conspiracy against him.
Khan, speaking at a mass rally in Sialkot, said he has recorded a video mentioning the names of the “conspirators” so people will know who wanted to kill him in case the bid succeeded.
“A conspiracy is being hatched behind closed doors inside and outside the country. The conspiracy is: they want to take Imran Khan’s life,” he said at the rally organised by his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.
“I have recorded a video and kept it at a safe place. If something happens to me, the whole nation will watch this video… I have named all those involved in this video.”
Police earlier dismantled the original venue of his rally and detained some of his supporters, but Khan went ahead with the public event at a different venue.
The Sialkot gathering is the latest in a series of mass rallies that the former leader addressed since his government was deposed via a court-directed no-confidence motion in Parliament.
Khan said his opponents consider him “an obstacle that needs to be removed”.
Khan has railed against his opponents and called for immediate elections to end the political crisis in the country at his crowded rallies.
He also called on his supporters to wait for his call later this month to march towards the capital Islamabad, where he hopes to gather 2.5 million people. – Bernama, May 15, 2022.
