THE bodybuilding team contributed two silver and two bronze medals at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, today.
Buda Anchah and Zmarul Al Adam Pulutan Abdullah won silver in the under-70kg and under-75kg men’s category, respectively, on the second day of the event at the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Centre.
The SEA Games did not offer bodybuilding for nine years before this edition.
In the under-70kg class, Myanmar’s Ye Htun Naung bagged gold, while Laos’ Phouthsavanh Sisomphou bagged bronze.
In the under-75kg class, Vietnam’s Tran Hoang Duy Thuan bagged gold, while Thailand’s Wichai Singthong bagged bronze.
The national bodybuilding team got its two bronze medals through Zainal Arif Zainal Ariffin and Muhammad Uzair Mat Noor in the under-80kg and under-85kg men’s category, respectively.
Zainal Arif came in third behind gold medalist Ekkaphon Sukthong of Thailand and Min Zaw Oo of Myanmar.
Uzair came in third behind gold medalist Aphichai Wandee of Thailand and Khin Mg Kyaw of Myanmar.
In total, the national bodybuilding team has bagged three silver and three bronze medals so far after it won a silver and bronze yesterday.
Malaysia may win its first gold in the bodybuilding event when national champion Mohd Syarul Azman Mahen Abdullah, or “Mike”, gets to see action tomorrow.
The four-time world champion will compete in the athletics physique event. – Bernama, May 14, 2022.
