AN 11-year-old boy endured almost 30 minutes of excruciating pain when the big toe of his right foot got stuck in an escalator at a shopping mall in Alor Star, Kedah, today.
A Kedah Fire and Rescue Department operation centre spokesman said the department received an emergency call from mall management at 2.54pm.
“A team was despatched to the scene. The mall maintenance personnel assisted in the rescue work, and the boy’s big toe was pulled out of the escalator after 15 minutes.
“Emergency Medical Rescue Services provided early treatment before the boy was sent for further treatment to Putra Medical Centre.”
Bernama journalist Ima Aimi Nadia Ibrahim, who happened to be at the location of the incident, heard the boy’s cries and screams and rushed to the escalator on the second floor of the building.
“The mall maintenance personnel tried to help the victim before firemen arrived, but I told them to stop as the victim was crying and screaming in pain. I was worried that he may suffer a more serious injury.
“As soon as firemen arrived, they calmed the victim down and tried to pull the toe out. They were able to do so after 15 minutes.
“The victim suffered a slight injury on the big toe of his right foot.” – Bernama, May 14, 2022.
