Don’t whine if we take action, Zahid warns Namewee

CONTROVERSIAL singer Namewee should not take it for granted that he will always get away with videos that stir up racial and religious sensitivities, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In an interview with The Star Online today, Zahid said the provocative Malaysian had been lucky to escape punishment for his actions so far, but he would get his comeuppance sooner or later.

“This person has escaped action several times. I just want to say that one day, action will be taken against him.

“It does not mean that they will get away with it always if they have gotten away with it before.

“Do not blame the authorities if action is taken against him,” he said.

Zahid said there could also be vigilantes, or “lone wolves” who decide to take the law into their own hands and punish the singer.

“I am also concerned that there are lone wolves or certain organisations that might want to take personal action against this individual.”

Zahid was referring to Namewee, real name Wee Meng Chee, whose latest production is a music video entitled “Like a Dog”.

In the video released in conjunction with the Chinese New Year, Namewee sings that different countries have a different bark and while America goes “woof woof” and Indonesia, “bow wow”, Malaysia’s bark is “mari mari wang wang”.

He is accompanied by background dancers in dog masks who make lewd motions and scatter money to the beat of the music.

Yesterday, social media activist Kamarudin Ahmad urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to investigate the video clip, which he said showed pornographic-style dancers near the Putrajaya Mosque.

Namewee made his claim to infamy in 2010, after his video “Negarakuku,” in which he mocked those who pray at the mosque, went viral.

The video prompted a sea of protests, including from Permuafakan NGO Melayu Pahang Bersatu.

Then-minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, NazriAziz, however, said action could not be taken against Namewee because he had not broken the law. – February 15, 2018.

  • WTF?? The one that action should be taken against is Zahid Hamidi. HE SHOULD BE FIRED from home ministry. He think he is JUDGE, JURY & PROSECUTO - the bad kinds. He has already decided that Namewee is guilty withoutspecifics and explanation.
