A TAIPING Hospital forensics team is using dental records to determine the identities of three of the five Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah students who were burnt to death in a crash on the North-South Expressway (northbound) near Kuala Kangsar, Perak, at midnight on Wednesday.
Kuala Kangsar police chief Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said the team has to do this because the bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
“The next of kin have provided samples for DNA tests, whose results will be sent for analysis to a chemistry department in Cheras.
“If there are similarities (between the dental records and remains), their identities can be ascertained. If not, we have to use the DNA method.”
He said the three victims’ post-mortems are complete and currently awaiting confirmation of dental records before the remains can be taken home for burial.
The other two victims were identified by family members via post-mortems at Kuala Kangsar Hospital last night.
They are Ahmad Naim Najmi Ahmad Hafizan, 21, from Kemaman, Terengganu, believed to have rode shotgun, and Ahmad Akmal Ahmad Mokhlis, 20, from Parit Buntar, Perak, believed to have sat in the back seat.
The other three are believed to be Muhammad Nasrun Aidol Munir Akbar, 22, the driver, as well as Iqbal Hasnun Halimi, 23, and Muhammad Nabil Haikal Muhammad Fariz, 19, both in the back seat. – Bernama, May 13, 2022.
