Houseman charged with insulting Agong on Facebook


A HOUSEMAN was charged at the Klang Sessions Court today with insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V on Facebook two years ago.

Mohd Faiz Mohd Yusop, 29, from Shah Alam pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before Judge Tasnim Abu Bakar.

He was alleged to have initiated the transmission of the insulting remark against the King on his Facebook page at 6pm, on December 16, 2016.

The remark was read at a restaurant in Taman Kota Pendamar, Port Klang, at 10.45pm the same day.

The charge, under Section 233 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or jail term of one year, or both, if convicted.

The court allowed Mohd Faiz bail of RM7,000 with one surety and set March 15 for remention.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Fatimah Yahya prosecuted, while Mohd Faiz was represented by Mohd Kamarul Arifin Mohd Wafa. – Bernama, February 15, 2018.
