New virus cases rise to 3,321

DAILY coronavirus cases in Malaysia rose again yesterday, to 3,321. 

This took the total number of infections since the onset of the pandemic to 4,467,061. 

There were eight Covid-19 deaths yesterday, three of which were declared dead on arrival (DOA). 

The death toll grew to 35,598, of which 7,539 were DOA. 

Selangor reported 1,220 new virus cases, Kuala Lumpur (573) and Putrajaya (182) for a combined 1,975 fresh infections in the Klang Valley. 

Other states and territories logging new cases were Negri Sembilan (288), Perak (221), Penang (208), Malacca (140), Kedah (98), Johor (88), Pahang (73), Sarawak (71), Sabah (57), Terengganu (42), Kelantan (37), Labuan (14) and Perlis (9). 

Johor, Kedah and Pahang recorded two deaths each and Perak and Negri Sembilan, one each.

Perak, Negri Sembilan and Pahang each reported one DOA case. 

Daily recoveries stood at 1,416 and active cases, 24,850.

Among the active cases, 23,385, or 94.1%, of them were in home quarantine, 33 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine centres, and 1,373 (3.9%) in hospitals.

Fifty-nine patients were in the intensive care unit, 34 of whom required respiratory assistance. – May 12, 2022.
