2 Covid-19 deaths, lowest in 12 months

MALAYSIA logged two Covid-19 deaths yesterday, the lowest such figure in more than 12 months, the Health Ministry reported.

The previous time the ministry registered just two deaths was on April 16, 2021. Some 35,569 people have died of Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic.

The ministry also reported 1,278 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, a slight increase from 1,054 infections logged the previous day.

The new cases took the cumulative infections since the onset of the pandemic to 4.45 million.

Almost 70% of new cases were logged in the Klang Valley region, comprising Selangor (719 cases), Kuala Lumpur (152) and Putrajaya (3).

Other states and territories reporting new cases included Malacca (76), Penang (65), Negri Sembilan (41), Perak (41), Kedah (40), Johor (37), Sabah (26), Sarawak (24), Kelantan (19), Terengganu (18), Pahang (9), Perlis (7) and Labuan (1). 

Negri Sembilan and Perak each reported one death. 

The number of active cases dropped to 27,454, with 2,599 recoveries logged in the past 24 hours.

A total of 26,407, or 96.2%, of the active cases were in home quarantine, 17 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine centres and 964 (3.5%) in hospitals.

Some 66 patients were in intensive care units, 36 of which required respiratory assistance. – May 6, 2022.
