EDUCATION Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin wants the issue of teachers appointed in June 2020 on a contract-of-service (COS) basis, whose contracts expire this June, to be given attention and resolved immediately.

Radzi in a post on his Facebook and Twitter accounts today said the matter relating to teachers’ concern about the COS expiry was raised in the comments on his social media accounts recently, which drew his attention.

“I have instructed that this matter be given attention and resolved immediately. MOE (Education Ministry) and SPP (Education Service Commission) are taking appropriate action in accordance with the existing rules and procedures,” he said.

He said an announcement on the matter will be made once the process is complete.

Earlier, it was reported that some 2,500 teachers employed on a contract basis in various states, including Sabah and Sarawak, were said to have not received any notification from the ministry on their contract status.

This issue was highlighted by Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching, a former deputy education minister, who said the contracts would end on June 10 this year.

Radzi added that the MOE is concerned about issues raised by the community about education and it is committed to doing its best to ensure the educational welfare of the country’s future generation. – May 4, 2022.
