2,107 new virus cases lowest in 13 months

MALAYSIA reported 2,107 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, the lowest in more than a year.

Five virus-linked deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 35,547.

The last time the country registered fewer new cases than yesterday was on April 19, when 2,078 cases were logged.

There have been 4,448,004 infections in Malaysia since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

Selangor contributed the most number of yesterday’s cases with 1,040, followed by Kuala Lumpur (191) and Penang (146).

Other states and territories reporting new cases are Perak (123), Negeri Sembilan (120), Johor (111), Malacca (91), Sarawak (66), Pahang (61), Sabah (48), Kedah (43), Putrajaya (26), Terengganu (22), Kelantan (15) and Perlis (4).

Only Labuan did not report new cases.

Two of yesterday’s deaths were in Kedah, one each in Johor, Pahang and Terengganu.

Active cases dropped to 45,506 while 6,890 recoveries were logged.

A total of 44,214, or 97.2%, of the active cases were in home quarantine, 33 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine centres and 1,190 (2.6%) in hospitals.

Sixty-nine of them were admitted to the intensive care unit, where 45 of them were intubated. – May 1, 2022.
