PAS is not interested in joining the opposition “big tent” because the it does not want to be part of the infighting in Pakatan Harapan, party president Abdul Hadi Awang reiterated today.

He described the “occupants of the big tents” as rats and cats fighting with each other, adding that PAS refused to get involved.

“We are not going into the big tent; we have our own group, we continue to hold on to our ummah unity agenda.

“We do not want to get into the big tent because in the tent there are rats, cats and all sorts of things. We are not a tent, we carry the ummah unity agenda,” he told reporters in Terengganu.

Pakatan Harapan is working to get all opposition parties united under a “big tent” to fight  Umno-led Barisan Nasional in the general election.

While PAS is part of the Perikatan Nasional ruling pact, which is loosely allied with Umno, the Islamist party’s relationship with the nationalist party has deteriorated due to former’s close ties with Bersatu.

Hadi said PAS continued to believe in the the Muslim unity agenda and working with Islamic parties such as Umno and Bersatu.

Non-Muslim parties and non-extremist groups were also welcome to join the agenda, he said after delivering a morning lecture at the Rusila Mosque in Marang.

Last week, the Marang MP had rejected the notion of working together again with PH.

Some Amanah leaders had said they were open to working with PAS again in the next polls.

Other PH leaders, including DAP, however, had nixed the idea. – April 29, 2022.
