IF there is one political fight really worth fighting for, it’s the anti-hopping law, Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said today.

The push for the bill to tackle the problem of political defections cuts across the political divide, the Amanah lawmaker added.

In a webinar today titled “Malaysia after the Sheraton Move”, Dzulkefly pointed out that voters were disgusted by selfish politicians jumping from one party to another for personal interests.

“Voters are disgusted. They are fatigued by self-serving political leaders who they hold in contempt.”

He said all political parties “must get it” in the same way the Federal Constitution was amended on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the status of Sabah and Sarawak.

“We can do similarly in bipartisanship.”

The anti-party hopping law, the Kuala Selangor MP added, would restore democracy and strengthen parliamentary democracy.

“(These defections for personal interests) are an assault on democracy. An assault on Parliament.

“It’s an insult to the voters (who elected them).”

On the infamous parliamentary coup that will go in history as the Sheraton Move.

The former health minister also said the Sheraton Move that saw the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government in February 2020 had left the country in a flux.

He said he has nothing but utter contempt for the 39 parliamentarians who betrayed the mandate of the people.

“It’s little wonder and much to the chagrin of the people that we have had three prime ministers in one parliamentary term.” – April 27, 2022.
