THE Health Ministry reported 241 Covid-19 hospital admissions yesterday.

Of these admissions, 135 cases or 56% were in the mild categories of 1 and 2 while the rest were in categories 3, 4 and 5. 

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said category 1 and 2 patients would be admitted if they were deemed high risk and in need of observation. 

Patients in category 1 are asymptomatic, category 2 have mild symptoms, category 3 have pneumonia-like symptoms, category 4 have serious symptoms requiring respiratory support and category 5 have severe symptoms requiring intensive care. 

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions, at 44, followed by Perak (34) and Kedah (22).

Of the 760 Covid-19 intensive care beds available, 17% are occupied. Seventy-six patients require respiratory support. 

No public hospital exceeded ICU bed capacity of 50% yesterday. 

Hospitals discharged 282 patients yesterday. – April 18, 2022.
