BERSATU president Muhyiddin Yassin will seek clarification from the prime minister on the status of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on transformation and political stability signed between Putrajaya and Pakatan Harapan (PH).
He said Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders mentioned the agreement during a meeting last week, and they agreed that no discussion was required on whether it should be extended.
However, he said, “there seems to be a slightly different decision today”.
“We will seek an explanation on whether he (Ismail Sabri) wants to end it or extend it.”
The National Recovery Council chairman’s remark was in response to the Umno Supreme Council move to not extend the agreement after it expires on July 31.
The MOU was signed by Ismail Sabri, on behalf of the government, and PH leaders (Amanah President Mohamad Sabu, then DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, PKR President Anwar Ibrahim and Upko president Wilfred Madius Tangau) on September 13.
Ismail Sabri earlier said he will abide by the Umno Supreme Council’s decision on the MOU, because as vice-president, he is subject to the council’s decision.
On Umno’s prime ministerial candidate for the 15th general election, Muhyiddin said PN does not share the same stance. – Bernama, April 15, 2022.
