2 PSM members arrested for allegedly disturbing public order

POLICE have arrested two men believed to be Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members for disturbing public order and obstructing civil servants from carrying out their duties in Chemor, Perak, this morning.

Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said police received a call at 8.35am concerning a group of men that disrupted and threatened the safety of workers carrying out clearing works on a private land near Taman Chepor Impian.

“A team went to the location and found that the group failed to prove ownership of the land. The officer on duty told group members to disperse to avoid any unwanted incident as they are trespassing.

“Most of them dispersed, but two local men who introduced themselves as PSM members refused to cooperate and provoked police.”

The duo are detained under sections 186 and 447 of the Penal Code.

Mior Faridalathrash warned against inciting others to commit acts that can threaten public order and encroach on land owned by others.

“To maintain peace and public order, police will adopt a stricter policy in handling such cases in future.”

PSM earlier today uploaded a picture on its official Twitter page, claiming that its activists were detained while defending farmers’ agricultural land in Taman Chepor Impian.

The party said the men were taken to the Ipoh police headquarters. – Bernama, April 13, 2022.
