Indonesian maids won’t get less than minimum wage, says Saravanan

INDONESIAN domestic helpers will not be paid less than the minimum wage enforced in Malaysia, said Human Resources Minister M. Saravanan.

He said this is included in the contents of the memorandum of understanding on the recruitment and protection of Indonesian domestic helpers in Malaysia signed on April 1.

“I hope that there will no longer be any confusion on the wages of Indonesian domestic helpers.”

The current minimum wage is RM1,200 a month, but it will be increased to RM1,500 a month after May 1.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the hike at the Umno General Assembly last month. – Bernama, April 13, 2022.
