THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lodged a police report and started an internal investigation over an audio clip posted on social media on Sunday.

In a statement, the ministry said that it viewed the “baseless” claims made in the clip seriously and had made a police report.

The ministry added that it had also launched an internal investigation to protect its interests.

“An audio clip was spread on social media recently regarding a male individual who made allegations to an individual with the honorific ‘datin’ about ministry matters.

“We take a serious view of the baseless allegations in the clip, which was intended to cause confusion.

An audio clip went viral after it was posted on social media on Sunday, purported to be a conversation between an unidentified male Foreign Ministry officer and a “datin” familiar with ministry matters.

The man in the audio complained that Foreign Ministry staff are facing many problems under Minister of Foreign Affairs Saifuddin Abdullah, not least having to fill a “minimum 33 vacancies” due to deaths, retirement or other reasons in Malaysia’s overseas missions.

He also made references to orders issued for the return of Malaysia’s two senior diplomats from the United Arab Emirates, confirming a Free Malaysia Today report quoting sources who said the duo will be placed in “cold storage”. – April 12, 2022.
