Writer Uthaya arrested over comment on Prophet Muhammad

WRITER Uthaya Sankar S.B. has been arrested following a Facebook comment he made on the issue of polygamy involving Prophet Muhammad.

“You are arrested. (Your) phone is confiscated,” he said on Facebook, citing a man named “Zainol” believed to be the police officer who arrested him.

The Malaysian Insight has contacted police in Bukit Aman for more information.

Uthaya when contacted earlier said he is in the midst of being questioned.

“I am giving evidence now to (Inspector) Safawati in Bukit Aman,” he said in a message to The Malaysian Insight.

The writer said he has been summoned by police in connection with his comment on Facebook dated April 8, concerning a news report on actor Iman Zulkarnain on his polygamous marriage.

“Being taken to Bukit Aman because of this (Facebook post). Maybe arrested, maybe bail. Can a lawyer come?” he wrote.

Uthaya also linked Prophet Muhammad’s practice of polygamy in the post. – April 11, 2022.
