THE Terengganu Health Department will conduct laboratory tests on samples of the “puding buih” said to have caused two children to suffer from food poisoning last Wednesday.

State health director Dr Kasemani Embong said the samples will be sent to the Bukit Tunggal Food Safety and Quality Laboratory, and that the results will be out within seven days.

“If the pudding is proven to be the cause of food poisoning, action can be taken against the trader under Regulation 39 of the Food Regulations 1985.”

The media yesterday reported that two siblings from Kampung Seberang Tuan Chik in Kuala Terengganu suffered from diarrhoea and vomiting after eating the “puding buih” bought from a stall in Bukit Tumbuh at 6pm last Wednesday.

The children, aged 7 and 9, were admitted to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital the following day. Both are in stable condition and one has been discharged.

Dr Kasemani advised the public to be more careful when buying food to avoid such incidents from recurring.

“Practice the method of seeing, smelling and tasting food before eating, especially food containing eggs as eggs that are not cooked perfectly can contain the salmonella bacteria, which can cause food poisoning.” – Bernama, April 10, 2022.
