252,730 travellers entered, exited Malaysia since April 1

AS many as 252,730 travellers were recorded to have entered and exited Malaysia within a four-day period since the reopening of the country’s border on April 1, said Immigration Director-General Khairul Dzaimee Daud.

Of the total, 126,392 arrivals and 28,301 departures involved Malaysians, while 55,121 arrivals and 42,916 departures involved foreigners.

Khairul Dzaimee said the highest movement involving foreigners occurred at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Johor, with 160,818.

This is followed by Kuala Lumpur International Airport (38,407), Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ Complex in Johor (53,113), klia2 (11,712) and Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah (6,980).

The highest number of travellers is from Singapore (65,165), followed by Thailand (7,841), Indonesia (5,173), India (2,477) and the United Kingdom (1,485).

On March 8, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the country will reopen its borders on April 1 in line with its plan to transition into the endemic phase.

On passport issuance, Khairul Dzaimee said the Immigration Department issued 12,923 copies of the passport within the same period.

He said the reopening of borders saw an increase in inbound foreign travellers by 76.4%, while passport issuance has increased by 38.2%.

He reminded locals and international travellers to always adhere to the general travel protocol set by the Health Ministry, as well as immigration rules.
