A 6.0-MAGNITUDE earthquake shook North Maluku, Indonesia, early today, said an official.
However, he added, no casualty or damage has been reported nor a tsunami warning triggered.
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said the quake occurred at 8:44am local time (0144 GMT), with the epicentre at 108km northwest of Halmahera Barat and the shallow at 10km under the seabed.
It said the tremor was also felt in nearby North Sulawesi.
North Maluku Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency operation unit head Fehbi Alting said the quake did not trigger any casualty or damage in the province, including in hardest-hit area Gelela.
“So far, there has been no report of damaged buildings or houses, or injury after the quake here… (even in Gelela),” he told Xinhua.
Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called the Pacific Ring of Fire. – Bernama, April 5, 2022.
