Nasyid artist urges Syed Saddiq to help legalise medical cannabis

NASYID composer Yasin Sulaiman, who suffers from bipolar disorder, wants Muda president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman to help speed up approval of laws to allow the use of cannabis for medical purposes.

The singer expressed his hope to reporters today at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court, where he faces several charges of drug abuse.

“Convey my message to YB Syed Saddiq. Ask for immediate approval,” he said as he was led away in handcuffs.

Yasin, 47, is accused of growing 17 cannabis plants at his home in Kota Damansara. He was charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

He pleaded not guilty.

In a raid on March 24 police found the plants and two plastic bags containing 214 grams of what is believed to be cannabis.

Police also found insect repellent, a PH meter, a thermometer, grow lamps, watering equipment and an aerator.

Syed Saddiq has called for hemp, one of the plants in the cannabis family, to be approved for medicinal use.

The MP wants more studies to be conducted medical potential of hemp, which is used by some to treatment mental health problems such as bipolar disorder.

Yasin in 2018 revealed that he had received treatment in the psychiatric ward of Kuala Lumpur Hospital/

He revealed on social media that he was experiencing several mental health problems including insomnia.

“In such a situation, I am not very sane, I really can’t make decision, I’m confused, I talk fast, change from one topic to another,” he said in a post on Instagram. – March 31, 2022.
