POLICE have summoned three people to record their statements over a viral video of a man being assaulted by a Prasarana worker at a convenience store.

Cheras police chief Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said a report on the incident has been lodged and police are investigating the case.

Police yesterday found two TikTok videos showing a man being harassed by two other men at a 7-Eleven in Cheras.

“The incident occurred on March 17. To date, police have taken three witness statements,” said Idzam.

“Initial investigations showed that an auxiliary policeman who was present during the incident did not assault the victim who was said to have taken food from the store without paying.

“The auxiliary policeman lodged a report denying that he attacked the victim.”

Prasarana responding to the video yesterday, saying it has launched an investigation as the assaulter was dressed in the company’s uniform.

It said it is believed that the incident occurred when the victim was caught red-handed taking food without paying.

“However, the offender’s behaviour is against Prasarana’s code of conduct. In any situation, if further assistance is needed, the matter should be escalated to relevant authorities.”

Prasarana said an internal investigation has been launched and urged those who witnessed the incident or have information to call 03-7885-2585 or email the company. – March 30, 2022.
